Heyold is a very old man who's spent much of his life taking care of spirit animals and trying to help them find their masters. He has a very faulty memory and his hearing's troubled, but when it comes to spirit animals, he hears and remembers very clearly. Heyold helped Crysta find her spirit animal by showing her the room he was staying in. He travels a lot, looking for places with high populations and places with a few people, in hopes that a spirit animal will detect their master's aura. He often sparks conversation with random people, hoping to score a name, and speaking these names to spirit animals ... or he did when his hearing was good. Now he spends his time finding evidence of a master's presence. He still travels a lot because of aura sensing spirits, but he does not mention names anymore.
At a point, Heyold returned to the acres. It seems as a result of this event, two more spirit animals came about to find their owners, one of them being Ritsuka, Chii's very loyal companion. Heyold eventually remembered where he was and mentioned that Ritsuka had seeked Chii for some time. Of course he doesn't express it overly, but he enjoys seeing spirits and masters unite.
